Dear Mr. President,

First of all, I would like to commend you for your great effort in leading our beloved country, the Philippines. Thank you also for not giving up on us, that despite the tons of criticisms that you are receiving from your detractors, you remain firm and focus on what you need to do.

Mr. President, please allow me to get straight to the main reason why I wrote you this letter. A few years ago, the International Court of Justice acknowledged us as the rightful owner of some of the disputed islands at the West Philippine Sea. I think this is so far our biggest achievement against China with regards to territorial issues, but up to this moment, this giant country has no plan of respecting the verdict of the court. Mr. President, I know that a lot of people are pressing you to make a firm stand with regards to this matter, but please don’t be pressured. China is such an enormous and powerful country to combat with. We cannot afford to go to war with them. May I suggest then that you should go on a bilateral talk with the government officials of China to discuss thoroughly this thing? It does not matter if it will take you several times to meet and come up with a favorable decision for as long as the life of every Filipino people won’t be compromised. Always go for what is best for your people, Mr. President…let’s peacefully settle this matter.

Thank you so much, Mr. President, for giving some of your precious time reading my letter and May the good Lord continue to bless you with good health and sound mind and spirit as you continue to lead the more than a hundred million Filipinos.

Respectfully yours,

Julie Mae De Leon
